spring fever
Please forgive. Class is almost over (only that final to worry about!). Excuses, excuses, I know.
It's been busy around here! We have a couple of new projects up our sleeves...the whole garden is all torn up with new plantings, and our new CHICKEN COOP!!! is almost finished. Did you read that correctly? WE ARE GETTING CHICKENS!
As in 25 chickens. On March 10th. 1 day old chicks, of the following breeds:
(8) Araucanas
(2) Golden Laced Wyandottes
(1) Buttercups
(2) Golden Campines
(2) Egyptian Fayoumis
(2) Blue Andalusians
(2) Black Stars
(2) Rhode Island Reds
(1) Crevecoeurs
(1) Golden Polish
(1) Mottled Houdan
(2) Cuckoo Marans
I don't know how in the world I'm going to tell who is who at first, but they should all be pullets (girls) and hopefully no roosters. In preparation we've had the most gorgeous little chicken coop built, I'll dedicate a whole post to its beauty.

You are very lucky to be able to have chickens. I am jealous. For now, I have a local source for fresh eggs. He sells his eggs very cheap, so I have the best of both worlds: fresh eggs, no work. :)

the other day me and the big black dog discovered some people in our neighborhood that have a chicken coop with at least 2 chickens in it.
let's just say we don't walk down that way during the daytime any more.
