sleep tight

Leif and sleep just don't go together. We had a couple of good months, although I think he has "slept through the night" less than 10 times his whole life. For the most part he still gets up 2, 3, 4 times a night. Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong, because he starts crying suddenly and needs to be comforted back down (as opposed to waking up and just being awake). Then there are the 5:30 wakeup calls, pure joy.

Falling asleep hasn't ever been too big an issue, he would either nurse to sleep or we could lay with him until he was out. Nowadays he will fall asleep mostly on his own if he is really tired, or sometimes I sing songs like "Boat Song", "Man Song", or "Cow Song" as he drifts off. For nap today Leif was very demanding, it had to be "Fire Truck Story!".

It goes something like this:

"Once upon a time, in a small town called Fall City there was the LARGEST and BIGGEST Fire Truck in all of King County. It was SOOO tall and SOOO long and SOOO shiny. The ladder could reach all the way to the top of Mt. Si and the hose sucked water from the Snoqualmie river. The Fire Man who drove the truck was also SOO tall and SOO handsome, he wears a big shiny Fire Man hat and a red Fire Man jacket and gigantic Fire Man boots."

And then after all his whining about having the Fire Truck story, and I'm getting to the good part where the Fire Man takes off his jacket and waders and starts washing his Fire Truck in his hat and boots - Leif yells:

"All Done Fire Truck Story! Night Night!".

And closes his eyes and goes to sleep. The End.
