setting sail

Tomorrow we leave for Paris! It is our first big family vacation and we are all excited, nervous, and slightly scared. After reading accounts like this one, and repeated dreams of Leif a) getting the flu right before takeoff or b) losing him in the metro or c) having it rain and storm the whole trip trapping us indoors - I'm slightly on edge.

Mostly it is the flight that worries me, a 10 hour direct flight in the evening. Leif in a confined space is something like one of those rubber super bouncy balls with a perpetual motion machine tucked inside. So far I have packed:

- Stickers
- Wind Up Toys
- 8 different Snacks
- Jungle Figurines
- Coloring Books
- Firetruck Books
- Firetruck
- 2 changes of clothes
- Blankie
- Sippie Cups

Anyone else have some ideas?

extra cash to buy cocktails for the passengers around you?

I can't wait for the pictures!
Be careful- you never know what you might bring home. Stone thinks there's something in the water.

earplugs for the folks around you! I haven't tried it but I've heard about it a few times, and it really seems to break the tension and help everyone feel more at ease.

Other ideas... have one of you board first with the carseat while the other one plays with Leif in the airport, so he can board close to last and doesn't have to sit around waiting.

Homeopathics (Calms Forte, I think) or other things to help bring soothing and calm energy...

Toys/games he's never seen before.

And the carseat... we lugged ours all the way to the Philippines, where NO ONE uses them, but it was worth having it on the plane, since he was used to sleeping in it and he didn't have to be on my lap the whole time.

And yeah, lots of cash for cocktails. :)

Bon voyage!!

Paint brushes and colored construction paper--wet the brushes and "paint" on the paper. It dries and can be reused or disposed! Don't forget a change of clothes for yourself in case of child nausea or spills or other ickies. Another herbal remedy to try is rescue remedy. Remember vitamin C and echinacea for everyone the day of traveling and for several days after. Can't wait to see the pics and hear about the adventure! -vicki

I think I'm too late, but we like to bring along a MagnaDoodle.
