size update
There has been this ongoing saga about Leif's size since he was 3 months old. He just doesn't really grow. Perhaps an ounce or two here and there, then losing a little, then gaining some back. Just a rollercoaster for us in many ways.
When I tell people about this, most are dismissive, saying "Well it's not like you guys are big!". Yes, I know. I'm not expecting him to be a linebacker. But we have looked very carefully at our growth charts, and he is well behind us both.
On Monday we had a big 3 hour long "final" appointment to take xrays, blood work, pee samples, and be seen by genetics and an ortho team. Conclusion A) He is really really micro. Conclusion B) He is fine.
About how small he is: Leif is 14 months old. He weighs the same as your average 5 month old. He just got to 16 pounds, and should be somewhere around 22 - 25 pounds. He is well well below any chart you can think of for length, weight, head circ, etc. They used all these complicated calculations to measure his thumbs and toes and compare them to his arm and leg lengths and he is basically just a teeny tiny etsy bitsy version of a one year old.
Of course there are still a few random endocrinology tests, but really we are just over it. I'm relieved nothing major has ever been found and that Leif is growing so fast in other ways that I can barely believe it. It feels like we can finally breathe a "little" sigh of relief and move on.
Now if he would just eat something! (ha ha)

Me too. I knew Leif was fine. He seems to be developing faster than other kinds in ways that matter most - like coordination and agility. I'm glad you can breath now even if it is "a little."
