EC update
(Britton Here)
Helping Leif with his elimination needs has been working very well. From his first days on, Leif has gotten used to "going potty" and we have gotten used to taking him. He almost never poops in his diaper and we catch a little more than half the pees. We have found we can focus on his morning pees (numerous) more easily than during the rest of the day. Being successful in general with pottying helps us to let ourselves off the hook when we miss a pee (or four in a row!). Having a sense of humor helps too.
Sometimes when I take Leif potty nothing happens for a while and then, at last, a couple drops and nothing more, as if he's saying "That's the best I can do". It's very endearing and reminds me that he totally gets it and that our goal is communication and understanding, not necessarily the pee that is caught or missed.
For the most part, when Leif is at home we take off the diapers and either take him to the toilet or to a little baby size potty. When we are out, we take him when we can and go ahead and use easy to remove diapers & clothing. Sometimes it is helpful to use cloth diapers without cover so we can tell right when he has gone in case we missed it.
If this is sounding totally crazy, read more here.
